White House removes NTSB vice chair amid heightened aviation concerns across US

The White Home on Monday eliminated the vice chair of the Nationwide Transportation Security Board, the most recent in a sequence of dismissals by President Donald Trump from unbiased U.S. authorities companies.

Alvin Brown, a Democrat who was the first-ever African American elected mayor of Jacksonville, Florida, was designated as vice chair in December by then-President Joe Biden after he joined the five-member board in March 2024.

A White Home official confirmed the departure.

Brown didn't instantly return an e mail to his private account in search of remark.

The NTSB investigates all civil aviation accidents.

The board investigates important accidents in different modes of transportation – freeway, marine, pipeline, and railroad – and determines the possible reason behind accidents and makes security suggestions.

Since January, Trump has fired two Democratic members of the Federal Commerce Fee and members of the Nationwide Labor Relations Board, Benefit Programs Safety Board, and Federal Election Fee, amongst others.

The departure comes amid heightened concern about aviation security following the Jan. 29 mid-air collision of a U.S. Military helicopter and an American Airways regional jet that killed 67.
