New analysis on PDS 70b, a forming exoplanet positioned roughly 400 light-years away within the constellation Centaurus, means that prevailing fashions of planet formation could require revision. Based on a research printed in Astrophysical Journal Letters, astronomers discovered a mismatch between the chemical composition of the planet’s environment and the encircling protoplanetary disk from which it emerged. The invention has led researchers to rethink established theories concerning how planets accumulate their mass and components throughout formation.
