El Salvador seized packages containing 1.4 tons of cocaine floating within the Pacific Ocean, President Nayib Bukele stated Tuesday, calling it a strike “towards worldwide drug trafficking.”
The cargo was discovered roughly 1,000 miles southwest of El Cordoncillo on the mouth of the Jaltepeque estuary on El Salvador’s Pacific coast, he stated, in a social media put up that included pictures of the seizure.
The seizure comes as President Donald Trump has declared conflict on Latin American drug traffickers and designated cartels overseas terrorist organizations.

The Salvadoran president stated the floating packages have been valued at $35 million.
Between 2024 and 2025, El Salvador seized 37.2 tons of cocaine with an estimated worth of $932.4 million, Bukele added.
The U.S. embassy in El Salvador praised the operation, emphasizing that “every profitable motion towards legal networks exhibits that there’s a rising synchrony between companions with frequent objectives.”
Washington estimates that 90 % of cocaine reaching the USA passes by Mexico and Central America through small planes, boats and “narco subs”
Mr. Trump has despatched a number of warships in the direction of Venezuela, accusing the federal government of being a part of the drug commerce, and ordered a missile strike on a suspected drug boat, killing 11 individuals.
Mr. Trump stated the assault focused members of Tren de Aragua, a Venezuela-based organized crime group that has been designated as a overseas terrorist group.
Final week Secretary of Protection Pete Hegseth stated the U.S. will maintain property positioned within the Caribbean and strike anybody “trafficking in these waters who we all know is a chosen narco terrorist.”
The U.S. can also be sending 10 F-35 fighter jets to the Caribbean for operations focusing on drug cartels, a supply conversant in the plans confirmed to CBS Information final week.
